Louvre Museum, Paris

4.6
#1 of 2,382 in Museums in France
With an impressive collection of 30,000 pieces, it's nearly impossible to see all of Louvre Museum. The three "Great Ladies,” Venus de Milo, Winged Victory of Samothrace, and Mona Lisa, may be the museum’s most well-known attractions. The Michelangelo gallery is just one of 30-plus galleries, each with a theme, such as bronze. Masterpieces aren't the only pieces that stand out. Religious artifacts include a fragment of the Egyptian Book of the Dead on papyrus. Even more impressive is the Code of Hammurabi from the Mesopotamian civilization. English-language tours are available on several days, but you need advance registration. Join a city museum tour or order tickets in advance so you won't wait in a long line to gain entry. • Wow, this was my first time visiting the Louvre, and it definitely met and exceeded my expectations. Be forewarned though, this place is a popular tourist destination so it is always incredibly busy. ...  more »
  • The museum is huge and grand to explore. Do take an audio tour if you dont get french, as all paintings had only french description. Its a 4 km long multiple floor museum with great art and artists.  more »
  • Was decorated with the famous painting, building and around the Park, shrouded in mystery. Because in many decorated lovely paintings and sculptures come 3.4 hours ready please.

  • The Louvre is incredible and gigantic. Would not be able to see everything in one day. The Mona Lisa (and the room it was in) was a highlight of course, as well as the Winged Victory (my personal favourite). I would recommend getting an audio guide. You can even download it onto your phone. Learning about the history of the piece that you are looking at gives you a deeper appreciation of it. Walking around the gardens was amazing too. There's no entrance fee to get into the gardens, and everything is manicured so perfectly.
  • One of the best places I have ever seen This place was one of the places that I thought would give touch of the history and goosebumps to the people .. there’s only fewer words in dictionary to describe this Breathtaking and beautiful - as a lover of art and history was definitely not disappointed with my visit. Managed to spend the whole day there without even noticing. So much to see, and experience. You truly cannot fully see and experience all in only one day. I loved the audio visual aids and guided tours. One of my many highlights was witnessing an artist paint a beautiful piece.

  • The Louvre was a wonderful experience. The subway goes right to the bottom of the Louvre. We bought our tickets online and were ushered right to the front of the line and right on in past all of the lines. It was amazing. The Mona Lisa exhibition is nuts with probably about a thousand people all in front of it, but if you work your way through the crowd, you can actually see it. We decided to leave the museum on the subway and head someplace else for lunch (prices and selection were very limiting). You can come back on the same ticket all day. It was great. Very limited bathrooms or I would have given it five stars. They need better facilities on all levels.
