Luxembourg Gardens, Paris

4.7
#1 of 1,421 in Parks in France
In the heart of the Left Bank, Luxembourg Gardens is arguably the loveliest park in Paris, with lush lawns radiating out from a pond centerpiece. Inspired by the Boboli Gardens of Florence, these gardens were created in 1612 by Queen Marie de Medici. Whether you're by yourself or with a whole group, this park is a relaxing reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can watch locals play the legendary French game of boules or simply stroll past over 100 distinct statues. Beautiful gardens and amazing for taking pictures and relaxing to enjoy Paris however at the front of the palace they had tape around the front for some kind of renovation which ruined some pictures.  more »

I came back to the gardens a few times, partly because of its central location and also due to it being a relaxing place to sit and have coffee. It's also a good place to pack food and picnic.  more »

We visited the gardens, hoping for an area for the young children, 3 and 5 years old. We noted a playground area. First of all, the children, and us adults, enjoyed so much in the gardens, including t...  more »

A great place for the kids. There are boats you can hire to sail on the pond in front of the main building and the kids playground is excellent. My kids especially enjoyed the zip line that goes round in an oval. There us a small entry fee for the playground but it is well worth it.

The Luxembourg Gardens is a great out of the way place to visit. The gardens are beautiful and restful. The statues surrounding the terrace of the Palace are amazing. The scattered statues through the Garden are breathtaking and another Statue of Liberty is located here. The Gardens are surrounded by restaurants that you can eat at or take out and bring into the Gardens to eat under the sky. At a leisurely pace, you can view the entire Gardens in two hours.

Beautiful gardens with an attached pond and palace and some quite impressive statues. You can hire model sailboats to sail on the pond. There are a few seats in the garden and even some small sporting fixtures . There are places where you can buy hot food but they can be expensive. It's a great place for a picnic or to capture some beautiful family photos.

Beautiful gardens / park in the heart of Paris' Left Bank. It is the garden of the country's Senate palace. Very historical place with statues - old and new - everywhere. It is a great place to visit a painting museum, have a hot chocolate on cold days, jog, walk under the trees, play tennis, let kids ride poney, discover a replica of the Statue of Liberty, marvel of the perspective and more.

Beautiful gardens with excellent play park for younger kids (up to about 8 years). You can also hire toy yachts to sail on the lake. You could easily spend several happy hours here and what's more it's easily within walkable reach of the centre of town.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
