Sainte-Chapelle, Paris

4.6
#4 of 1,857 in Historic Sites in France
Soaring stained glass windows beam a myriad of colored light onto the floor's rich tile mosaics inside Sainte-Chapelle. This house of worship is one of the highest achievements of the Rayonnant period Gothic architecture, and retains one of the most extensive collections of 13th-century stained glass anywhere in the world. Built by the French kings to house the relics of the Crown of Thorns, this "jewel box" structure has two levels and an impressive vaulted ceiling. Sainte-Chapelle is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Paris Edition.

Input jump the queue with the museum pass for this church located in the complex of the Court, albeit a very small one I found most interesting about night dame. Seeing the effect of the Sun on the stained-glass Windows, each of which tells a story. This is to see

Spectacular stained glass windows, but on a day sunny in Paris. Must-see since there is no large queues and the vision of the stained glass is difficult to see in other cities. We loved it.

From a friend visiting Paris, try look at once here! Said to have been in Paris in the sixth finally! Stained-glass windows of the chapel on the second floor we recommend to visit on a sunny day is breathtaking. The Japanese had come alone were high school students? For while reading the instruction card for the English boys and enjoyed the beauty of stained glass. To get the ticket and the Conciergerie adjacent, make sure you visit.

We went on a weekday with the Paris Museum Pass just before lunch. The museum pass line had no wait. Entering the first level, the glass and ceiling are beautiful with many areas to explore and things to read. The big moment is walking up the stairs in the corner to the main floor. My goodness the stained glass is massive, encompassing and each tells a unique story. Everyone has the same reaction when they walk up - just WOW! Is a must see and can easily be combined with Notre Dame in the same morning or afternoon.

Very cool stained glass church. We didn't prioritize this and just popped in when we could. People seem to stay a while but we felt that 15 minutes or so was plenty to get the shots and get out and away from the mobs. Quite a dramatic building though and happy we went to shoot it!

If you visit Paris, you definitely need to see this Cathedral, the interior is very beautiful, because of stunning glass painting of the windows a colorful lights shine to inside. It's the most beautiful Cathedral i have ever seen from the inside, it makes you say WOW!

Impressive chapel. After visiting 20+ churches in Europe, this one though is something unique. However the only downside is you need to pay to get in which I find a little annoying. But otherwise it's worth a short visit. For the budget-conscious, maybe not.

Fantastic place as far as interior is concerned. I strongly suggest you go to a concert which regularly happen in the evening due to the chapel's acoustics.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
