Mt. Koya, Koya-cho

World Heritage Site and headquarters of the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism, Mt. Koya blends nature and spirituality in utmost harmony. The monk Kūkai first settled here in 816 CE as a retreat from the courtly intrigues of Kyoto; an eternally lit mausoleum in the middle of the immense east-side graveyard pays tribute to him. Visit the western side as well, to see a temple complex with a Kanpon Daitō pagoda in its center. Explore some of the 100 wooden temples dotting the area, and the nearby town's university dedicated to religious studies. To visit Mt. • At the beginning of June, my wife and I visited in the night 二日. On the first day to the Hall. Lined with lush trees and dignified air amid the graves of famous large families, businesses and individuals are crammed with. If expected about an hour round trip from a bridge. Accommodation is bomun hospital. Lodging in iwae prestigious Temple is Western-style twin beds, tatami mat on the bed kneeling keen and well kept. Next day morning 8:00 half-open sesame kongobuji Cathedral on the platform to start the reihokan Museum and touching the Shingon esoteric Buddhism and until 16:00! It was a dark green Koyasan. I would next like to go during this season.

  • Simply fantastic! This place transports you to a time in history that is still present today, in this location.
  • Koya-san definitely deserves its UNESCO World Heritage status. It’s a beautiful place up in the mountains. I definitely plan to go again, and let’s just say, I wish I had more time to spend there, because a few hours won’t cut it. You need a full day or two to explore the place properly. There are several in-temple lodges across the map of Koya-san. Koya-san’s station is connected by a cable car from Gokurakubashi station, the last train stop is at Gokurakubashi. Going here was an experience, the views are breathtaking. I recommend going here and staying overnight. You can get here from Osaka or Kyoto pretty easily, you have to take the Nankai line in Osaka, bound for Hashimoto I believe.
  • Atmosphere and view at the UNESCO world heritage mount koya (koya-san) are incredible and not to describe by words. Please spend a whole day there to explore the old graves, temples and the forest. It's totally worth it and you won't regret it. Please also treat the location with respect due to its the largest Buddhist graveyard in the world. Would recommend it everybody on their Japan trip. Accessible by train from Kyoto or Osaka.
  • Temple stay in Koyasan is one of a kind experience. The calm and tranquillity of places is fascinating. To walk in the cemetery during the day or at night is a meditative promenade full of signification. Definitely love the area.
  • The temple had opened Kobodaishi. A lot of tombstones are in line. Kobodaishi still lives there now ,still alive and holy air floats. The tree which is between Mikagedo and the condo is called "SANKO 's pine" from a pine on a Kobodaishi relation. When Kobodaishi finished a study from China and arrived at a route in Japane, that threw the difficult Buddhist Buddhist altar apparatus called SANKO. The meaning that he seems for a place good for establishing Shingon Esoteric Buddhism was included. I knew that I grasp KOYA-san by "SANKO 's pine" after going home and set this place. 夏でも涼しいのは杉木立が枝葉を広げているから。 世界遺産の霊験が神聖な空気として漂っているからか?
