  • Really nice indoor market in Kyoto. Many quaint little shops, the market and the market itself a succession of delicious Japanese Street food. You look your eyes out. Recommended!!

  • Lots and lots of market shops selling all range of street foods and souvenirs to fit all budgets. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Kyoto and is a bit different from just temple-hopping!  more »
  • We had a good time wandering this crowded street buying street food, sweets, and gifts. Don’t go if you hate crowded places or at least try and go early to avoid the crowds.  more »

  • Awesome ambiance and great food! Whilst there are lots of tourists, it isn't a tourist trap as food is priced fairly and the quality is excellent It's a 45min - 1 hour jaunt. Shops tend to start closing about 1700 onwards. There's a small, easy to miss shrine at the end of the the market (the side that leads into the retail high street) Very worthwhile going
  • Oh the pickles. I may be partial to pickled vegetables, even so, I think it's worth mentioning the excellent selection. It's really fun to walk through and try some of the free samples. The sellers are not too pushy so it's a good experience. Especially if you love trying new foods.
  • Long covered arcade with many food stalls. Great for an insight into the food culture of a city famed for being the kitchen of Japan. Aritsugu is here too, a fantastic knife and kitchen ware shop. Must visit!
  • A very pleasant and long walk through a myriad of different sorts of stores, concentrated mainly on the extremely wide variation of Japanese food. However, everything is totally overpriced and directed towards being a recommended tourist trap. Buy your souvenirs elsewhere else, get your great photos in this market!
  • Def fun place to walk around. Would say though quality of the food from 4 different stalls I tried were at best on par with 7/11 quality (that said 7/11s in Japan are v good!). Maybe cause so many tourists they don't need repeat customers. Possibly the peripheral streets outside the market are better. Might put this as item 4 or 5 on your to dos in Kyotos rather than 1 or 2.
