Hozenji Yokocho, Osaka

4.1
Taste the old days of Osaka at Hozenji Yokocho, set in a narrow stone-paved lane of the city’s bohemian quarter. An Edo-era row with gastropubs, cafes, and nearby old theaters, the alley makes a popular spot to sample the city's nightlife and taste some great food. Smell incense wafting from the Hozen shrine tucked in the alley off the busy main streets, and see the famous mossy Buddha, the "kami" of fury, now fully covered in moss. Stop for a prayer, pour water over statues, or find an eatery and hunt for souvenirs along the alley, which sits 5 minutes walk from Namba station, exit 14. Our Osaka online trip itinerary planner makes visiting Hozenji Yokocho and other Osaka attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Hozenji is full of small restaurant, bars and cafes. Letters over the entrance of the alley West Hiromi Fujiyama, East third Katsura spring one of Beck's. In front of a small restaurant "positive valve s. Tanna-Tei" overtaken, I thought well done here by ODA sakunosuke monument. Hozenji alongside the Dōtonbori, appeared in many songs, become the symbol of the South is the Naniwa emotional corner. Hozenji Center, hozenji Temple (water real estate) a day incense smoke drifted the aroma Swart. Hozenji Temple rather than "water 不動sann" of Acala is known by the name puts different wishes, such as prosperity, love & romance, water and Mairi who is always the MOSS-grown and amazing. Hozenji grew from the precincts of the Jodo sect heaven Lungshan Temple Street. People who enjoy the storyteller from the Meiji era to the early Showa red plum Pavilion of vaudeville and Kanazawa-Tei in crowded I had. In the air raids of World War II as well as Temple burned. After the war, rose again as an amusement. Temple's temple during the Edo period, but is now only 不動sann and Basilica of Kompira remains. Admission is free.

  • Hozenji Center is the deity of water hanging fudoson incessantly praying for in ladle water since the jizo statue covered with MOSS. Located in an alley in the back one from ebisubashi-suji Street, buzzing, so quiet, cobbled exudes elegance. This is the famous Meoto-zenzai. Zenzai shop, cookshop, kushi katsu-ya got, everywhere, and no doubt it is. Alley had fire in 2002 and 2003, has revived old fashioned appearance. We recommend be taken to to take a look at isolated from the once-glamorous world.

Where to stay in Osaka

The majority of Osaka's moderate and expensive accommodations concentrate in the districts of Umeda, Kyobashi, Namba, and Shin-Osaka. Base your stay in or near Minami neighborhood for proximity to a wide selection of shopping and dining options. For quick access to long-distance transportation to other cities and areas, look for hotels in Kita district. Many backpackers prefer the budget options in the Tennoji area, where the quality of rooms and prices vary wildly--call or check websites of specific establishments before you make reservations.
