Casa Cenote, Tulum

4.2
#4 of 13 in Nature in Tulum
Just 10 minutes from downtown Tulum, Casa Cenote boasts a natural open cavern fed by water that flows into the Caribbean Sea. Nestled above a large underground cave system and set in a scenic mangrove forest, the cenote offers a picturesque place to escape the heart. Swim in the vibrant turquoise water of the cenote, meandering among the mangrove trees, while millions of small tropical fish swim around you and colorful birds sing in the trees. Rent snorkeling or diving equipment to further explore the basin, its diverse wildlife, and a network of hidden underwater coves. • Just down the street from where we stayed. Very popular. The kids enjoyed it. We just snorkeled but scuba diving is done and apparently popular.  more »
  • This isn't a gorgeous cenote where we go down, but a swimming area in the mangrove. Nothing very interesting or pretty compared to the cenotes that we have been dazzled to discover. Uninteresting snorkeling among divers bottle which barbottent to 5 m deep. There would be a crocodile in the corner... Bcp better to do in the area. It's more expensive, less although elsewhere and very touristy

  • Beautiful Cenote and enjoyable length swim. The entrance is odd with people who seem random taking money for the fee but other than that everything was good. This was one of our favorites on our trip.  more »

  • We spent a half day snorkelling and kayaking in the crystal clear water in front of Casa Cenote. The fresh water from the cenote enters the sea through a big opening where many fish can be seen. Casa Cenote is a great place for a drink during the day and atmospheric dinner at night. The food is delicious. It’s not cheap, but worth it. We loved the atmosphere and the views over the sea. Best thing: totally away from the crowds.
  • Very good view. Fast service. Good food and great drinks. Reasonable pricing. Excellent value for your money. We went to the near by cenote and after the visit we went to the restaurant. The staff was very nice and efficient. Everything we ordered was great.
  • Fantastic Cenote, crystal clear water and good snorkelling. Pristine condition but beware of Panchito, the local crocodile! Totally harmless and used to humans, although it is a THRILL to swim by a crocodile.
  • beautiful, kind of an insider's tip. gives you not so much the feeling like in a cave/cavern that you expect from a Cenote also not the super high visibility but the light effects are amazing and you feel like you're diving underneath the rainforest. we were lucky and saw a crocodile swimming and posing on a rock underwater next to us.
  • Great people. Friendly and informative. Great spot for diving and snorkeling

Where to stay in Tulum

Most accommodations in Tulum make the most of the region's scenic coastline, offering sea views and easy beach access along the coastal Route 15. This area, known as the Hotel Zone, includes everything from basic, budget-friendly "cabanas" (beach shacks) to large-scale beach resorts. For proximity to the town's famous Mayan ruins, stay at the northern end of this coastal stretch. If you want easier access to amenities and ongoing connections, look to the township itself, located a short drive from the beach.
