Cenotes Dos Ojos, Tulum

4.5
#1 of 20 in Parks in Tulum
For a different take on the conventional diving experience, visit Cenotes Dos Ojos, a flooded system of caverns just north of Tulum. One of the world's most extravagant dive sites, this is also one of Mexico's biggest underwater cave systems, featuring almost 30 sinkhole entrances (cenotes, as the locals call them). The caves stretch for over 80 km (50 mi), but most divers focus on two sinkholes approximately 70 m (230 ft) in diameter, linked by a 400 m (1,300 ft) passage. There's plenty of light here and the water temperature remains a constant 25 C (77 F), which makes this spot ideal for snorkeling and learning how to scuba dive. • We went by chance saw images of the cenotes along the road. 350 pesos for visiting two of their cenotes (not included nothing more) was very excited to see how they were and imagined them beautiful, but nothing beyond... is a cave where light barely enters, the water is frozen. Cannot be or good photos by the little light that enters. We just agree with a cinematograph production and from the entrance no one we notice nothing... by what we saw only 1 cenote and half of the other. He would not return to the cenote and really do not recommend it to anyone... I think the area there are many other better for the same price.

  • Well kept and very beautiful. Still normally run by locals and not by American bulk-owners turning everything into a plastic amusement park like other places we found (read: Xel-Ha'). The guide was ve...  more »
  • The view is amazing as is the story of those formations. But a little fear in going into a cave flooded with low light and not walk, but even for those who do not is so much fun staying in the IJsselmeer Lake on the edges watching the fish and bats. Tour for those who love nature!

Where to stay in Tulum

Most accommodations in Tulum make the most of the region's scenic coastline, offering sea views and easy beach access along the coastal Route 15. This area, known as the Hotel Zone, includes everything from basic, budget-friendly "cabanas" (beach shacks) to large-scale beach resorts. For proximity to the town's famous Mayan ruins, stay at the northern end of this coastal stretch. If you want easier access to amenities and ongoing connections, look to the township itself, located a short drive from the beach.
