Grand Cenote, Tulum

4.3
#2 of 13 in Nature in Tulum
Swim and snorkel in the crisp cold waters of Grand Cenote, a flooded cavern with a jetty, affording easy access to a wonderful subterranean pool. Scuba diving excursions are available, but you’ll be able to see a lot from the surface with your goggles, including strange rock formations and terrapins heading to the surface. The beautiful surroundings make a great place to have a picnic before returning to the pool. Keep your eyes peeled for the iguanas and peacocks that roam the surrounding area. • Specify here the most beautiful Cenote for us! Is it turtles that swim in the water, but in a separate area. You can go swimming in two directions. Once in a cave with bats and once under the cave through to a different output. Our favorite!

  • The admission was very expensive but otherwise a nice trip. We are your own car then because we were in the vicinity. Not worth an extra tour. Nice to the snorkel but no nice way lie down. Not really as a whole day trip.

  • Stunning! But it is very commercialised, we went earlier than the coach tours which was a lot more pleasant, when we left the big busses were arriving and it was quickly getting crowded.  more »

  • Absolutely LOVED IT! Go early or late in the day. Try to avoid any possibility of crowds. Easy to get to from Tulum, 5 minute drive and easy directions. So much fun to check out!!!! We rented snorkels and loved seeing all the fish and turtles swimming around. The water can be a bit chilly. We got in and out a few times. Very easy and cool adventure!
  • This is a beautiful cenote with very clear, cool water and is ready to get to without having to drive dirt roads. Did facilities including a bathroom/changing room and lockers. It's a little more expensive in order to pay for the extra facilities there, but worth it if you have a family and want to spend a few hours. It's very peaceful to float and watch the turtles, fish, birds, and bars in the cave area.
  • Overpriced with not so friendly reception. More a hoitytoity lounge for foreigners who prefer manicured lawn, upscale facilities and uniformed attendants. Cenote is nice but not any grander than numerous others nearby that are far cheaper, often better, and much friendlier.
  • Really great place to spend a couple of hours. I recommend renting the snorkel (bring ID or cash for a deposit) which costs 80 pesos and 30 pesos for a locker. The res turtles in the water including tiny ones and also bats in the cave! There's a cafe which is nothing much but a rare patch of grass where you can lie and catch some sun or dry off from your swim.
  • Very beautiful. Expensive for Mexican standards (180 pesos entry). 80 pesos for snorkeling equipment is worth it. Go early as it is way more quiet and the water looks stunning

Where to stay in Tulum

Most accommodations in Tulum make the most of the region's scenic coastline, offering sea views and easy beach access along the coastal Route 15. This area, known as the Hotel Zone, includes everything from basic, budget-friendly "cabanas" (beach shacks) to large-scale beach resorts. For proximity to the town's famous Mayan ruins, stay at the northern end of this coastal stretch. If you want easier access to amenities and ongoing connections, look to the township itself, located a short drive from the beach.
