Monument to the Warsaw Uprising Fighters, Warsaw

4.6
#15 of 468 in Things to do in Warsaw
With one of the highest number of visitors in the city, Monument to the Warsaw Uprising Fighters pays tribute to the brave souls who fell in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. The bronze statuary that makes up the monument is divided into parts--or what look like scenes--of resistance fighters in combat. One depicts resisters climbing out of a sewer manhole that served as a route from the ghetto to German-occupied territory. The layout was created by sculptor Wincenty Kućma and architect Jacek Budyn. You'll find the attraction on the southern side of Krasiński Square in the center of town. • The monument itself is well no more, but without a doubt what makes it wonderful is the story that represents: the insurrection of the Polish people before the nazis. If you go with safe guide who will stop here to explain when and how revolted, and it cost them.

  • A fitting tribute to the uprising of Warsaw! For evil men to conquer all it takes is good men to do nothing !  more »
  • The statue in the history of this century is of great significance and historical significance. Close to the exhibition board to explain the history of the Chinese, there are English version. This is a great way to get to the point where you can take a bus.

  • A fascinating monument steeped in history. It is a large scale sculpture that you can walk around and captures a moment in time. There is a musical public bench nearby and this was the perfect way to end a walking tour.
  • Powerful expression. Very much recommended!
  • The monument is dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Unveiled in 1989, it is located on the southern side of Krasiński Square. I would recommend using a tour guide to learn more about the monument, the history of Warsaw Uprising in 1944, and to tie this monument in with the many others scattered in the nearby vicinity. On its own it is an incredible story, a visit to the Warsaw Uprising Museum (again I recommend a guide) sheds incredible light on the meaning behind this monument. I will be back on a sunny day (it was raining when I went in July) to explore, take it in and shoot some better photos with my SLR instead of my cell phone. It's worth the visit to see a part of the history of WW2, and to know about the incredible courage of the Polish people in the face of adversity.
  • Monuments dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Great representation and respects to heroes.
  • Set across the museum, careful crossing the street. Note the details of the equipment that the soldiers are wearing.
