The Royal Castle in Warsaw - Museum, Warsaw

4.3
#3 of 41 in Historic Sites in Warsaw
The official residence of Poland's monarchs for more than two centuries, The Royal Castle in Warsaw - Museum sits at the entrance of Old Town. Between the 16th and 18th centures, this castle housed the king's personal offices and served as the administrative center for the country's royal court. Devastated by foreign invaders several times over its long history, the castle underwent a massive reconstruction after World War II. Admire the majestic building, now a national monument. The castle also features a museum with a significant art collection, including two notable works by Rembrandt. It is surprising the amount of works of art in this Palace. It is a very large site. I recommend to go in the morning to be able to see all the detail and read all the pamphlets that tell the story of the last 400 years of Poland. It should take into account that the Palace was rebuilt according to the original plans, since it was destroyed by the Nazis. Even at that, it is surprising.

  • It's incredible the large this castle is. Sundays is free of charge, but it's full at it's limit, so u would not appreciate it. As the price is low, I would recommend visit another different day, so there would be more space and u can do photos alone in all the rooms. Definitely if u are near u have to go. It's incredibly beautiful.
  • Just great, a must visit. Be prepared though cause it's big enough and you need some serious time to get around it.
  • Beautiful castle, rebuild after WWII to recover the history of Warsaw. It has different historical styles on different parts of the castle acording to the times of construction7renevwl, making it very interesting!
  • Pretty inside although didn't visit the museum's inside. Amazing that the whole place was rebuilt from rubble after the war!
  • Would have had 5 stars if the staff were not so grumpy. The facination with this building is not that it is an ancient monument, rather the painstaking work restoring the building, following its destruction by the Naz is.

Where to stay in Warsaw

Many centrally located hotels in Warsaw cater mostly to business travelers, which makes them much too expensive for backpackers and other visitors on a limited budget. Although hostels may seem like the only affordable option at the height of the season, you can find less expensive lodgings in mid-range hotels on the outskirts of town. Alternatively, time your visit for the weekend, when many hotels near the city center slash their prices and offer special deals for early booking.
