#28 of 257 in Things to do in Warsaw
Warsaw University Library is known for its main facade covered with large blocks of classical texts, as well as its roof garden--one of the largest in Europe. Notice a large open book with the inscription "hinc omnia" at the entrance. The university motto means "from here--all." The front lobby area and the main section are connected by a small passage covered by a glass roof. Visit the botanical garden on the roof, filled with bridges, streams, pathways, sculptures, and a fish pond. From the deck you can get great views of the city and the river below. The library also offers guided tours. Arrange to visit Warsaw University Library and other attractions in Warsaw using our Warsaw tour planner.

An extraordinary experience-garden green, fragrant blossoms, small pools and streams, reading room glimpses from the top of the garden, bridges, statues and many, many steps and grass. Allow fun to be an hour or two. Don't give up the structure itself, including the backbone is illuminated by a glass roof and is selling the posters is only there for lunch (posters, some rare depending on rates could be visible on a nearby store).

Hidden gem! This public library has an amazing garden to walk through. Not just next to the building but on top of the building as well! It's a great place to let the kids stretch their legs, take a nice break or check out the view!

Oh i love the roof! You can even eat grapes here (it grows here), the view is nice. Atmosphere is romantic and good for working at the same time.

We asked the waitress and the hotel we were staying at what one place she recommended us to visit and the University of Warsaw Library was what she suggested. We walked there and had a look around the library and on the roof where there is a garden. There is also a nice park next to it where we lay on the grass and enjoyed the sunshine. There is a cafe inside too. It is a place that isn't promoted much for tourists but should be. Even the big bus tours don't go there. Well worth a visit. Visited June 2016.

Interesting, beautiful and cosy. Garden on the roof is very beautiful. A nice choice to take a rest or to spend nice time with your friends/parents/couple.

Where to stay in Warsaw

Many centrally located hotels in Warsaw cater mostly to business travelers, which makes them much too expensive for backpackers and other visitors on a limited budget. Although hostels may seem like the only affordable option at the height of the season, you can find less expensive lodgings in mid-range hotels on the outskirts of town. Alternatively, time your visit for the weekend, when many hotels near the city center slash their prices and offer special deals for early booking.
