#5 of 10 in Historic Sites in Wroclaw
St. Mary Magdalene Church in Wrocław, Poland, is a gothic church located between Szewska and Laciarska street close to the central market square, established in the 13th century. Currently it is a cathedral of the Polish Catholic Church led by Piotr Mikolajczak. On the 21.10.1523, the first Lutheran services in Breslau were held here.DescriptionDuring the Second World War the church was seriously damaged. In 1945 the legendary Sinner's Bell, which was the biggest Silesian bell, was also damaged. St Mary Magdalene was rebuilt during the period 1947-1953.The most precious relic of the church is a Romanesque portal dating from the 12th century, coming from a Benedictine monastery on the river Elbing. The bridge connecting the two towers is called the "Mostek Czarownic" (Witches’ Bridge). A legend says that the shadows visible on the bridge are the souls of the girls who used to seduce men without wanting to be married, being scared of housekeeping. Indeed shadows represent women with brooms in their hands.BibliographyMalgorzata Urlich-Kornacka A guide to WrocławBeata Maciejewska Spacerownik Wrocławski

  • -In a few minutes you can go up the stairs. The floors are chairs, where you can relax. Tickets available for purchase in the shop after 5zł (after the entrance to the Church, we left). Next to the cash register is the entrance stairs. There are no queues. The TERM in the rain you can not visit the bridge of witches. POINT of INTEREST-a wonderful view from the bridge between the towers. Unfortunately, both the towers cover a large part of Wroclaw. On the floors when you enter you can read the history of the Church, the legend of the bridge of witches and the Bell of the Sinners. On the bridge is not a lot of space, but the rotation is enough to admire the view. Not requiring the entry stairs and stunning views are a fantastic attraction for younger children.

  • Cathedral in the center of the city, which overlooks awesome panorama. You can start from here, walk around the old town.
