Casa de Campo, Madrid

4.0
#11 of 24 in Parks in Madrid
Originally enjoyed by Fernando VI as a royal hunting ground, is now the largest green space in Madrid, with extensive bike and walking trails, a zoo and aquarium, sports arena, amusement park, and cable car. In contrast to the manicured grounds of Retiro Park, this area grows wild and allows visitors to see Madrid's ecosystem in its natural state. Scout out a picnic spot in the sun-dappled forest, walk along creeks, and read up on the local plant and animal life on the informational plaques. Watch for the bright green monk parakeets that flit among the treetops. Young visitors will love the many play areas and the amusement park. Finish off your visit with a ride on the cable car, taking in bird's-eye views of the Temple of Debod, the Parque del Oeste Rose Garden, and the Royal Palace on your way back to the city station, which is near Metro Argüelles. We were a summer day and went out with a boat to take a walk around the pond. It gave us the Sun and the trip was pleasant, there were many people and some canoeists were training.

Huge park, with various species and of great antiquity most copies, making it a place of lush vegetation, with a huge Lake, very pleasant to walk or do sports. There are many areas reserved for parking on sand terraces, and also highly recommended if you go by public transport or bicycle. At the Lake you can ride boats to paddle. Very nice to enjoy it as a couple, with family or friends. The entrance is free. Within the Casa de Campo are the Zoo of Madrid and the amusement park, both with payment of entry, logically.

Nice and quiet place, just at the exit of metro Lake (linea10). Highly recommended, admission € 4.50 for a relaxing day just outside the city centre of madrid. P.s. the structure does not have a bar, there are fountains and picnic areas to have a meal.

  • I really only flew over the top of this in the teleférico but would make a point of going here on a return trip to Madrid. It looked a great spot for a picnic /barbecue / stroll / bike ride. I was surprised to find this natural area so close to the city and accessible by such an enjoyable, cheap (€5,90 return), fast method.
  • The best park I've walked around in some time. Great for walking and cycling, the park is well maintained but rustic at the same time. Perfect for hiking around for a few hours but so close to the the city.
  • This park is great for biking. It is huge and has a lot of different trails with hills and nice scenery
  • Lovely open large park with lake. Great to relax. Good nudist spots, beware gay zones.
  • An excellent amusement park to spend a weekend afternoon Adivse: go early to avoid crowded installations. Try to go on a warmer day as you will get wet. There are also full body dryers for one to dry out in between rides.

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
