Casa de Campo, Madrid

4.0
#11 of 53 in Parks in Madrid
Originally enjoyed by Fernando VI as a royal hunting ground, is now the largest green space in Madrid, with extensive bike and walking trails, a zoo and aquarium, sports arena, amusement park, and cable car. In contrast to the manicured grounds of Retiro Park, this area grows wild and allows visitors to see Madrid's ecosystem in its natural state. Scout out a picnic spot in the sun-dappled forest, walk along creeks, and read up on the local plant and animal life on the informational plaques. Watch for the bright green monk parakeets that flit among the treetops. Young visitors will love the many play areas and the amusement park. Finish off your visit with a ride on the cable car, taking in bird's-eye views of the Temple of Debod, the Parque del Oeste Rose Garden, and the Royal Palace on your way back to the city station, which is near Metro Argüelles. • This Park is absolutely huge, and it's really nice to walk around. Note that a portion of the Park is a nature reserve in which it is formally forbidden to venture (i.e. surrounded by fencing and barbed wire), but you can see a small part of the local fauna (mainly of rabbits and) different species of birds). There are water points in several places, as well as several points of view high offering views on the city of Madrid. You get lost quite easily and more we ventured deep into the nature, more time then it takes to find the way back to the main roads. Note that a part of water courses indicated on the cards are dry (classic in Spain) and only a part of what is stated as pedestrian paths are real paths in the middle of the vegetation. Attention if you walk with children or seniors.

  • The Madrid field House is wonderful. The green lung of the city, well preserved mostly and very nice to enjoy a good walk or exercise

  • Its very nice place. I like it very much.
  • Great place to get a trail run in for a visitor to Madrid. There is over 100kms of tracks and paths available to either walk, run or ride with some nice views of the city. The park is only a few metro rises from the city centre.
  • Big park. Well connected by public transport. Zoo, funfair, bike paths, lake and outdoor public pool. Great for getting the impression that you're out of the city.
  • It is the greatest urban green space in the city, you can walking, biking, have a meal or take a drink. In spring trees are amazing, colorful and you can also enjoy the lake, picnic, canoeing and boats.
  • A hidden gem in the city. Great place for long walks any time fo the year with some good eateries around the lake.
