Casa de Campo, Madrid

4.0
#10 of 39 in Parks in Madrid
Originally enjoyed by Fernando VI as a royal hunting ground, is now the largest green space in Madrid, with extensive bike and walking trails, a zoo and aquarium, sports arena, amusement park, and cable car. In contrast to the manicured grounds of Retiro Park, this area grows wild and allows visitors to see Madrid's ecosystem in its natural state. Scout out a picnic spot in the sun-dappled forest, walk along creeks, and read up on the local plant and animal life on the informational plaques. Watch for the bright green monk parakeets that flit among the treetops. Young visitors will love the many play areas and the amusement park. Finish off your visit with a ride on the cable car, taking in bird's-eye views of the Temple of Debod, the Parque del Oeste Rose Garden, and the Royal Palace on your way back to the city station, which is near Metro Argüelles. • This Park is absolutely huge, and it's really nice to walk around. Note that a portion of the Park is a nature reserve in which it is formally forbidden to venture (i.e. surrounded by fencing and barbed wire), but you can see a small part of the local fauna (mainly of rabbits and) different species of birds). There are water points in several places, as well as several points of view high offering views on the city of Madrid. You get lost quite easily and more we ventured deep into the nature, more time then it takes to find the way back to the main roads. Note that a part of water courses indicated on the cards are dry (classic in Spain) and only a part of what is stated as pedestrian paths are real paths in the middle of the vegetation. Attention if you walk with children or seniors.

  • In Madrid a place where everyone can walk, in which all can enjoy the outdoors and the field.

  • The Madrid field House is wonderful. The green lung of the city, well preserved mostly and very nice to enjoy a good walk or exercise

  • Big park. Well connected by public transport. Zoo, funfair, bike paths, lake and outdoor public pool. Great for getting the impression that you're out of the city.
  • Great place to get a trail run in for a visitor to Madrid. There is over 100kms of tracks and paths available to either walk, run or ride with some nice views of the city. The park is only a few metro rises from the city centre.
  • Awesome and huge park in Madrid. You can do all sport activities, also tapas bar surrounding El Lago (The lake).
  • Very nice! You can come here for a walk in the park, amusement park, hanging out with friends. I stayed in a nearby youth hostel and it was a nice walk to the metro station even though it rained a lot
  • It's a very large forest park near my apartment. Normally, my friends and I would go to visit this area during the weekends, killingsome time and for not staying at home for too long or getting some exercises in the park. There you can always see some people cycling, running, some children and students playing in the blank space area. The scenery very great, during the autumn and there is a biggest lake in Madrid there. So I would say that it is a great place to feel the nature, keep yourself away from the noises in the downtown and breathe some fresh air while doing exercise.
