#2 of 51 in Parks in Madrid
Stretch your legs at Madrid Rio, a 10-km (6.2-mi) long park that runs along the banks of the Manzanares River. Set off on one of the many walking and cycling routes, play a round of tennis, or simply laze on the grass. Cool off at the park’s “beach,” where you can bask in a shallow pool or run among streams of water. Children can tire themselves out in one of 17 different play areas. Stroll through the Huerta de la Partida, an orchard restored to its 18th-century splendor, with trees growing almonds, pears, olives, figs, and more. Check what’s going on in the Matadero Madrid, a former slaughterhouse that today hosts a variety of cultural events. There are a number of places to stop for a drink or bite to eat. Put Madrid Rio and other Madrid attractions into our Madrid route planner , and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Nice walk. Feasible by bike (it is long to walk) or Segway. Place off the beaten path. To do once everything essential to visit summer

  • Every year the environment along the Manzanares gets better and better as trees get bigger and the area gets more greenery. Its at its best during summer when all the cafés are open and full, kids are playing in the fountains, and the trees are all in bloom. The only thing missing is access to a clean river where one could practice and enjoy boat rides and perhaps a swim. The bridges along the river provide awesome photo opportunities. Enjoy walking, running, skating along the banks of the river.
  • This is probably best place if you want to go for a walk or run in Madrid City, but the fact that the pedestrians do not know how to walk and constantly bump into you whether you are walking, running or cycling spoils the fun. Another big issue is that Madrid Río is not a river, but a shallow stream where even baby ducks can walk. They should increase the flow of the water as it would cool down the city in hot summer months and provide much needed humidity.
