Find out about ancient civilizations that inhabited Iberian peninsula from prehistory to the early Modern Age at National Archaeological Museum of Spain. Isabella II founded the museum in 1867 as a depository for various collections of the Spanish monarchs. Housed in a Neoclassical building, the museum features mostly Hispanic cultural remains, but also Roman mosaics, Greek pottery, and 8th-century votive crowns. • This is another large museum, and well curated too. The Iberian peninsula has been settled for a long time, even before Homo sapiens appeared. The museum mostly tells the story chronologically from a ...  more »
  • Saturday afternoon and Sunday is free. The audioguide costs 2 euros and is an interactive tablet. The basic course lasts at least two hours. Fantastic multimedia points in all rooms of the Museum.

  • Many wanted to see it for a long time, but I had not had the opportunity. I has not let down at all, your tour by Spain, from prehistoric times to our days, having 2 collections apart from Egypt and Greece. Boasts some spectacular audiovisual that serve as introduction to what you will see in the room or sitting area. It has very important and difficult to find pieces which have given much information from the daily life of different populations at different times. I just have to put two buts, esper or in brief, they are served to make this perfect visit: is a very educational and enjoyable journey. The videoguides are fine, but should have a guide service available to the public without having to book it in advance, but for hours, to see it from another perspective. Similarly, all all the audiovisual material that exists the Museum, cannot be purchased in the gift shop in audiovisual format (for example, on CD). If this were so, I am sure that the Museum would be an important source of income since many people ask for this material every day. In short, I was delighted and repeat another day without problems.

  • This is a hidden gem among all big and famous art museums. Only 3eur per person, a lot of interesting information. If you start from ground floor you start from oldest age and you ended at 3rd floor at modern age. You never feel too crowded, moreover many places to sit and regain some energy (needed when visiting with kid...) We most enjoyed the video installation and good animations.
  • Really nice museum, great building which in some ways was the highlight. We went through every floor and this took about 2 hours. The museum has very nicely animated videos at various points, with English and Spanish subtitles. There are also GearVR points throughout. It was very quiet at non-free times so free entry on Saturday and Sunday afternoons recommended.
  • Great place to visit. Plenty of space so you never feel crowded or unable to see the exhibits. Displays well laid out with English translations on all of them and subtitles for all the videos. We only had 3 hours free and wished we had more as there were some areas we did not have time to visit. At only 3 euros, well worth the money, as indeed was the cafeteria where a very good coffee and cake only cost the same.
  • One of my favourite museums that I have visited. Each room has television screens explaining the early history of humankind. There are a multitude of items, including human bones and early weaponary. You could easily spend a couple of hours here. The tickets are pretty cheap to.
  • Beautiful museum with so much history. The exhibit on currency is so contemporary. Lots of benches for resting. Free entrance & education on Sundays, go early !!! Water fountain near exit (save empty bottle...)
