Parque del Oeste, Madrid

4.4
#8 of 39 in Parks in Madrid
Spanning an area of 87 hectares (215 acres), Parque del Oeste is home to a beautiful rose garden. Inhaling the scent of the roses, it is difficult to imagine that this was once the site of a landfill. Thanks to Alberto Aquilera, a 20th-century mayor of Madrid, the public can now enjoy these landscaped grounds and pathways. The park houses the Temple of Debod, a gift from the people of Egypt to the people of Spain, reconstructed in the park in 1968 and rising ephemerally from a pool of water. Other monuments are scattered throughout the area, complementing the harmony of the landscaping.  Arrange to visit Parque del Oeste and other attractions in Madrid using our Madrid travel route planning website .

  • Although I almost every day with my dogs, that is a privilege that not everyone has, by a matter of time I can't do my favorite ride: from Moncloa to the Temple of Debod at sunset. West Park is unbeatable at that time, the season of the year that is. Come to the temple to see the Sun, unforgettable. Only a small detail, a source of drinking water. Moreover, the parque del Oeste is must-see.

  • This a beautiful park on a hill near the Madrid University. It is where the Egyptian Temple of Debod is located. From this park you get a great view of the city of Madrid.  more »
  • If you climb to the Templo de Debod, than you surely enjoy right away from the park and beautiful views? I would have liked to have gone with the cable car, but it was not in operation at the beginning of March, unfortunately. But .... Madrid's park in which you are, you never feel in a world city. You will find anywhere!

  • Really nice park with an amazing view, easy to get to as it's one of the stops on the Madrid Tour bus. Would be a really nice place to relax in the summer months, wasn't too busy in February so you can get as really good photo of the temples. Not much to see though as it's just a park really, ain attraction is the temples and the view is really good as well. (Be sure to use a toilet before you go as there isn't any)
  • Ah-mazing park before sunset, meaning get there about 20 minutes before sunset and the light, if you are a potog, will be magical if it's a clear day. The sun also sets behind a ridge and the colors that shine back on the city are very pretty!
  • Nice, quite central park with a great view. The park is easily accessible by the 2,3,4,6,9 metro lines and is also close to the Palazo Real and Opera. The park is really nice, with many palm trees and flowers for decoration, but it also has buildings inside it. Some were really nice like the Temple of Debod, but unfortunately it was closed. Some were slightly old and looked off in the beautiful park. The park stretches all the way to the north part of Madrid, so expect a 30 minute walk. The park also features a teleferic taking you to another bigger park in the hills, but unfortunately the teleferic was nothing more than 1 star.
  • Very near to Moncloa goverment palace and the tower with the same name. With a pretty artificial stream
  • Very beautiful! Great place to walk around and explore. Spend a morning or an afternoon just relaxing. Especially if you've been walking all around the city!
