Take a journey through modern art at Queen Sofia Arts Center (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia), which features some of contemporary art’s most revered works, including those from famous Spaniards Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. The museum is mainly dedicated to Spanish art of the 20th century, but the extensive collection includes works by a number of international artists, including Max Ernst, Robert Delaunay, Richard Serra, and Francis Bacon, to name just a few. The museum’s many galleries often play host to a mixture of national and international temporary exhibits, while the on-site free-access library contains an impressive collection of over 100,000 art books. The galleries displaying the permanent collection are spread over two floors, so if you’re looking for a specific work, save time by picking up a copy of the museum’s floor plans from the information desk at the entrance. • Very beautiful museum with a modern structure. Their feature presentation was Picassos´'s Path to Guernica: a collection of Picassos's works (paintings and sculptures) produced prior to the Guernica m...  more »
  • Who came especially for the Picasso exhibition this museum is truly sublime and has exceptional pieces outside guernica and other works by the author... a great time, to really find out even if you're not contemporary art lover

  • Must-see if you want to complete the triangle of art in Madrid and you like contemporary art, or simply if you want to contemplate one of the most important works (and in some cases, shocking, as Guernica) of the last century.

  • Loved it. Great selection of modern art by Dali, Miro, Picasso and many others. Good views from the terrace and a reasonably priced cafe outside with funky furniture to lounge on. Well worth a visit.
  • One of the most prominent and vital museums in Madrid. Its permanent collection of Spanish art is fantastic and the temporary exhibits change constantly. Here's a secret: it's free from 7-9pm. If you don't know, now you know.
  • Amazing museum of modern art. Not only the permanent collection (take at least 3 hours to really enjoy them), but also the events. Navigation is sometimes difficult and the thematic rooms lack of written explanations. But the real problem here is the behavior of some tourists : noisy, they take selfies in front of the pieces, even if it's forbidden.
  • The Guernica exhibit is worth the visit, but the museum also offers a fascinating collection of other Modern artists. Each room is curated into a theme, style, or period, which adds to the educational experience of walking through. They offer laminated information sheets in each room, which felt a little homespun and some of the translation was iffy. Permanent plaques on the walls, like they have at the Prado, seems more appropriate. We took advantage of the interior courtyard as a meeting spot, and it's great to be able to come and go all day with your ticket.
  • Very beautiful museum and pieces of art work. A must see in madrid along with the prado. Lots of art work for all over and very easy to navigate once inside.

An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
