Bronx Zoo, Bronx

The world's largest urban zoo, Bronx Zoo displays more than 650 different species from across the globe--about 6,000 animals in total. The 107 hectare (265 acre) park features numerous sections and regional themes, including Wild Asia, Madagascar, African Plains, the World of Monkeys, and Tiger Mountain. You'll find a colony of critically endangered western lowland gorillas in their jungle habitat in the Congo Gorilla Forest, which showcases the zoo's commitment to conservation and provides residents with spacious outdoor enclosures. Check the zoo's online events schedule for animal feedings, zookeeper talks, and enrichment activities. Put Bronx Zoo into our Bronx visit planning website and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • My daughter loves the Children’s Zoo, all the exhibits are awesome. I am a big fan of the birds and the ducks  more »
  • Hate Zoos in general, but this one tends to have more of a "ZOO" in front of the cages than behind. NEVER go on Wednesdays (Free day!) in the summer.  more »
  • We love visiting the Bronx Zoo. One of the best in the country. Bring the kids, they will love it for sure.  more »

  • The Bronx Zoo houses amazing habitats and attractive exhibits such as the Baboon Reserve, Birds of Prey and the Butterfly Garden. Some special attractions include, The Wild Asia Monorail, the Congo Gorilla Forest and the Dinosaur Safari. One particular exhibit that I really enjoyed was the World of Reptiles; here you'll find snakes, poison dart frogs, turtles and many more. Overall the zoo has plenty of beautiful areas to rest, eat and enjoy a day out. Don't forget to purchase souvenirs at various stores throughout the zoo. Cafés and food stands with indoor and outdoor seating. Adequate restroom facilities. All buildings are wheelchair accessible. Do keep in mind that this zoo is 265 acres of grounds. Wearing comfy shoes and the proper clothing will be the best option; remember that the distance between attractions may be quite far. You may want to find out about their attraction availability because it may be subject to changes due to weather or other issues. The Bronx Zoo is close to transportation. On Wednesdays admission is by "pay-what-you-wish donation". As of 2018 the All day parking has increased to $17.00 for cars/$20.00 for buses. Single stroller rentals $10.00/ double stroller $15.00. Wheelchair FREE (w/a $20.00 Refundable deposit.) Electric Convenience Vehicle $40.00 (w/$100.00 Refundable deposit.)
  • This was a great zoo!! Right up there with San Diego’s Zoo. All my kids loved it. It is so big and the animals have great habitats to live in. We went on a Sunday and the crowd was very minimal. We have a family of 6 so we ended up buying a family membership which was the best because we were able to get into the other exhibits at no extra cost. We will definitely be going back!! I do recommend packing your lunch and bringing your own snacks because the food is typical amusement park food. It’s a very clean well kept park.
  • Brought my family there and was extremely satisfied. Large area in the middle of the city does a wonderful job of letting you forget your in the heart of New York. Great displays, wonderful open area in the bird exhibits. Good range of animals and plenty of them. They also has a great kids area and activities and also serve beer. We didn't get to see it all but absolutely will return to explore the rest!
  • I went on a Wednesday with a few friends and family members because general admission is free for all. We weren't able to do everything (as there is a lot to do) but we purchased the Experience Pass for half price and did the Monorail, 4D Movie, Bug Carousel, The Butterfly Garden, and all the other activities that cost an additional price to admission. On every other day of the week, the Experience Pass is about 30$ per person (in addition to the admission fee), but on Wednesday, the Pass is 15$ per person. It was well worth the fee. We would've spent more than that on two activities. Will definitely go back again
  • The Bronx Zoo is one of the best deals in the City! Though they try to sell you the complete experience package admission ticket for 37 dollars, regular general admission is only twenty bucks. A huge amount of all kinds of animals in a fairly naturalistic setting. Way too many things to adequately see in just one day, even without adding all the supplemental activities (and expenses!) Wednesdays are "Pay what you want" day, so even less expensive if you want.
