Fremont Troll, Seattle

4.0
One of Seattle's more unusual tourist attractions, Fremont Troll hides out under the Aurora Bridge. The giant stone sculpture of a troll eating a full-size Volkswagen Beetle was created by a team of local artists led by sculptor Steve Badanes. The mixed-media artwork is made of rebar steel, wire, and reinforced concrete. Though you can have your picture taken standing next to the sculpture, you can also climb on top of it and take a look at its one good eye, made from an ordinary hubcap. • Great stop for visiting the local neighborhood and photo op. Just be sure to wait your turn as it tends to get busy on summer weekends. Parking can also be an issue due to crowded neighborhood.  more »
  • Had to visit after seeing it in so many Seattle lists and films. It was way bigger in person and I'm happy to say I got my photo with it! I hope it continues to be looked after so more people get to s...  more »

  • Not really sure how to write a review of the troll. Its a giant troll. What do you wanna know? Go there, marvel at its weirdness, take a pic, then go to Fremont brewing and drink. Could potentially be a bit sketchy and dark late at night. But there's always tourists about. If you're walking there its a short hill up to it.
  • Great fun to see but obstructed by construction saw horses. Popular spot so along with obstruction lots of visitors climbing and touching makes it hard to get pictures. Rather spooky at night for kids.
  • This is really cool and a creative idea! Well made! I feel like people really shouldn't climb on it though, whether there are warning signs or not. Risking your neck for a selfie? No one would ever – (looks at news) never mind.
  • A small tourist stop in Seattle. It's a troll sculpture that protects the community garden. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit, but if you're already in the area, go for it. We only stopped by, because it was within walking distance from Uneeda Burger, where we had a late lunch. If you make it here, check out the community garden that's up the hill to your left. I personally enjoyed walking through the garden more than snapping a pic with the troll. During my visit in November, there was some graffiti on the troll. A local said that they try to clean it up once in a while, because graffiti is a common occurrence.
  • It's cool for sure! You won't be there long though... quick stop! Definitely cool to take pics with.

Where to stay in Seattle

Famous for its architecture, Seattle's downtown area features a range of lodging options, including high-end hotels offering expensive rooms with views over Elliott Bay. Remember that despite their prices, many hotels in this waterfront district provide rather small rooms. If you need more space but don't want to break the bank, head out of downtown to some of the city's outlying neighborhoods. Seattle's diverse suburbs offer affordable bed and breakfasts, providing you with all the comforts of home and allowing you to see what local life is really like.
