Green Lake Park, Seattle

4.7
#2 of 6 in Nature in Seattle
Surrounding a glacial lake, Green Lake Park features landscaped lawns and scattered trees that reflect off the glacial waters. The park was part of the 1903 Olmsted Plan, which aimed to create interconnected green spaces throughout Seattle. Set out on the dirt footpath or the two-lane bicycle and stroller path, which stretch the 4.5 km (2.8 mi) perimeter of the lake. You'll see soccer games, Tai Chi classes, and other outdoor activities in the park's open spaces. At the community center, take a dip in the outdoor swimming area, or visit the bathhouse that has been converted into a small theater venue. • Very nice place to swim in cold River (only in summer) surrounded by a beautiful park for a few hours with the kids, family entertainment or a double.

  • The park is a beautiful inner city area located on the northern part of the city. There is a nice walking/jogging path which goes around the lake, so you can get a 2.5 mile walk in while enjoying the ...  more »
  • I love green lake, for the nice walk and the beautiful beach. But I really fell in love with the Pokémon aspect! Yeehaw!  more »

  • This is the best park in all of Seattle! It has Evans pool which is a community pool you can rent paddle boats and drive around duck Island, it has tennis fields on the east side and west side of the park it has a boat rental area where you can actually take sailboats out! It has huge baseball fields soccer fields it has a Lawn Bowling area picnic areas mini of trails and bring your bike because it is 3 miles around if you go up to Starbucks and back on the east side of the lake. It is my childhood entertainment spot and focal point of the entire North End of Seattle. I will add more pictures but this is just a picture of the gigantic open lawn area and baseball diamond next to Evans pool.
  • I love walking around this park! My favorite time has to be fall because of the change in color of all the leaves. You'll have plenty to keep you busy on the walk - with loads of adorable dogs! Don't forget to respect the bike lane - wheels in 1 lane, walkers in the other. It's a great place to walk, run, people/dog watch. You don't feel like you're just outside the city of Seattle. A nice break from the city!
  • Visit this place if you’ve never been there before! Bring your kids or pets. It’s a really busy area specially on the weekends so it’s hard to find parking spots sometimes. Lots of coffee shops, kid friendly restaurants, bars around... Downtown is very close to the Green Lake so it’s just great. I lived there for a year and simply loved it.
  • My happy place. This is such a special location. I don't know what it is, but it makes for the perfect daily walk, perfect 3 mile walk and even when there are boat races or extra people when the sun comes out, it's really unbeatable for runners, walkers, visiting or just hanging out on a sunny day. I wish they would move the bikes/rollerbladers off the main path to the outer edge though. Walkers greatly outnumber riders and it gets a little crowded on the one side sometimes. I know that creates a little controversy however! In any case, it's my go-to year-round spot to walk quietly or meet friends to walk and talk.
  • Great place for a walk or a run. The path is 2.8 miles around the lake. This is a wide, groomed path. There are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants around the lake if you want to make a day of it. There is also plenty of free parking. Great place to spend the day.

Where to stay in Seattle

Famous for its architecture, Seattle's downtown area features a range of lodging options, including high-end hotels offering expensive rooms with views over Elliott Bay. Remember that despite their prices, many hotels in this waterfront district provide rather small rooms. If you need more space but don't want to break the bank, head out of downtown to some of the city's outlying neighborhoods. Seattle's diverse suburbs offer affordable bed and breakfasts, providing you with all the comforts of home and allowing you to see what local life is really like.
