Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, Seattle

#6 of 35 in Parks in Seattle
Learn about one of the last great prospecting adventures at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. The Cadillac Hotel is your first stop on the trail. This site was once the initial supply point for prospectors headed to the Yukon. Explore the temporary exhibits and pick up a map of the original Chilkoot Trail that settlers used to reach the wild lands where they hoped to strike it rich. This is the only international historical park shared by Canada and the United States, as the park extends up to Alaska. The park includes historical settler towns and Dawson City. A visit to Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Seattle trip maker site to plot your vacation.

  • The museum is free. I highly recommend spending a little time to learn the origins of Seattle and what propelled it to become a mega city through the discovery of gold in Alaska.  more »
  • We stumbled across this museum after recommendaruon from a tour guide ar beneath the streets tour. It's intriguing, very well laid out and full of information. I would encourage families to visit and ...  more »

  • Very nice little museum. Good place to learn about one of the most important events in early Seattle history. I played the computer game Yukon Trail a lot as a kid, so I thought it was pretty cool to find out more about the real life experiences of people heading north back then. It's not the kind of place where you'd plan a whole trip just to go there, but if you're in the area anyway (Pioneer Square, International District, football/baseball/soccer game), I definitely recommend stopping by.
  • Good free museum showing how the Klondike Gold Rush energized the previously sleepy port city of Seattle. Street parking nearby is a bit difficult to find and pricey, but the museum is free so good return on investment for your weekend. You need about 1.5 hours to see everything
  • Our four year old enjoyed the interactive nature of the exhibits. The historic movie was vintage 'middle school 1987'. A nice 20-30 minute activity near Pioneer Square.
  • It's free, it's compact and it's very informative. Well worth a visit when you are in the area. Nothing fancy or hi tech .. just well laid out displays providing some interesting history of the gold rush era.
  • Nice lil museum...free admission...plenty of good info about early Seattle...great time killer while waiting for my train north
